It’s with huge sadness that we have to announce the death of our member Kath Doyle on 16th February.  She passed away peacefully at Derriford ICU just ten days after first feeling unwell.  Kath and her husband Dave joined TOWC four years ago with their Ford Capri.  In that short time they have become great friends, contributing so much to club life with their friendly nature and hard work behind the scenes.  They’ve entertained us throughout with their bubbly personalities, and especially with their hilarious videos of our annual Riviera Classic Car Show, other club events, and not least with several evenings of musical entertainment.  As the act “After Dark”, their very professional stage performance of vocals with a clever musical backing has been very popular at several club parties.

To lose any club member is always sad, but to lose someone so suddenly when they are still enjoying life to the full and sharing that enjoyment with us is heartbreaking.

Our thoughts are with Dave at this terrible time.

We’re creating a photo album of happy memories on the Torbay Old Wheels Facebook page.

Torbay Old Wheels Club English Riviera Classic Car Show on Paignton Green 24th July 2016

Following the huge success of the Riviera Classic Car Show on 24th July, members of Torbay Old Wheels Club met this evening to present a cheque for £4,200 to the Paignton Festival (formerly known as Torbay Carnival). Pictured is TOWC Chairman Julian Smith with Mike Bailey and Bev Good of the Festival Committee together with some of our hard working members. The amount raised is a record, and brings the total to date to nearly £40,000. All of this money is used to support local charities. This year's donation from the TOWC will be presented to benefitting charities on 7th October. Our thanks go to all of our team, to everyone who exhibited their vehicles on Paignton Green, and of course to the visiting public whose entry donations made this fantastic sum possible. We'll see you all again next year on 23rd July.

Welcome from our Chairman

Thank you for your interest in Torbay Old Wheels Club and welcome to our website.  We are a group based in the Torbay area of South Devon.  Most of our members live within 20 miles or so of here, although we do have a few who are further afield.

TOWC was founded in 1992 by a small group of friends with a common interest in preserving and using older vehicles of all types.  Since those early days the club has grown, but it still retains the friendly atmosphere where new members are quickly welcomed and made to feel at home.

The majority of us have cars, but many of our members also own bikes or commercials.  Cars owned by members date from the 1920s onwards, right up to a few more modern exotics and replicas.  What we all enjoy is the company of friends with a common interest.  We meet monthly on the last Thursday at the Farmhouse Tavern on Newton Road, Torquay TQ2 7AD at about 7.30pm.  As well as dealing with the routine of keeping the club running smoothly we usually have an extra feature such as a talk, film show, quiz, or whatever our social team comes up with.  We also play skittles against other clubs every few months.

In the winter we have a monthly Sunday run, preferably in old vehicles, where we explore the beautiful area in which we live.  This usually ends up with a hearty lunch: we do enjoy our food!  In the summer season many of our members display their vehicles at shows around the region.  At quite a few shows we run our own TOWC club stand.

We are probably best known for organising the Riviera Classic Car Show on Paignton Green at the end of July each year.  This Show is an integral part of Torbay Carnival, which then runs through the following week.  We have done this since 1994, and since then have been able to donate over £35,000 to the Carnival from the proceeds of the Show.  These funds benefit many local charities which have been chosen by the Carnival Committee.

As well as enjoying the social side of things, the club is a great way of sharing advice on the “nuts and bolts” of our hobby.  We have a number of experts on hand so if we can’t help immediately we can probably point you in the right direction!

If you are interested in anything to do with classic, vintage or veteran vehicles we’d love to meet you, whether you own one or not.  Follow the link on this site for a membership form, or if you’d like a chat first please phone me on 01803 557466.  Just ask for Julian Smith
